Beskrivelse af Rudin a Romance and A King Lear of the Steppes
Rudin a Romance and A King Lear of the Steppes is a collection of two novellas written by the Russian author Ivan Turgenev. The first novella, Rudin a Romance, explores the life of a young man named Dmitry Rudin who is well-educated, charming, and idealistic. He falls in love with a young woman named Natalya, but their relationship is complicated by their different social statuses and the expectations placed upon them by their families and society. The second novella, A King Lear of the Steppes, tells the story of a wealthy landowner named Ivan Petrovich who decides to divide his estate among his three daughters. However, his decision leads to unexpected consequences as his daughters begin to fight over their inheritance and Ivan Petrovich becomes increasingly isolated and disillusioned. Both novellas are characterized by Turgenev's signature style of psychological realism, exploring the complex emotions and motivations of his characters as they navigate the social and cultural norms of 19th century Russia. Rudin a Romance and A King Lear of the Steppes are considered classic works of Russian literature and are widely studied and admired for their insights into human nature and the complexities of relationships and society.1916. Turgenieff (Turgenev), novelist, poet, and playwright, known for his detailed descriptions about everyday live in Russia in the 19th century, he portrayed realistically the peasantry and the rising intelligentsia in its attempt to move the country into a new age. Two of Turgenieffs smaller novels, they are reflective of the negative view of Russian society that pervades his work.
