The Possessed The Devils

Bag om The Possessed The Devils

The Possessed, also known as The Devils, is a novel written by the renowned Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky. First published in 1872, the book explores the themes of political and social revolution, nihilism, and the destructive power of ideas. The story is set in a provincial town in Russia, where a group of radicals, led by the charismatic and enigmatic Nikolai Stavrogin, plot to overthrow the government and establish a new order. The group is made up of a diverse cast of characters, including intellectuals, students, and disaffected aristocrats, all united by their shared belief in the need for radical change. As the plot unfolds, the characters become increasingly embroiled in a web of intrigue, betrayal, and violence. The novel is also notable for its exploration of the psychology of its characters, particularly Stavrogin, who is haunted by his own dark past and struggles to reconcile his ideals with his actions. The Possessed has been praised for its complex characters, vividly drawn setting, and its exploration of the political and social issues of its time. It remains a classic of Russian literature and a powerful commentary on the dangers of radicalism and extremism.I have been studying Nikolay Vsyevolodovitch of late, and through special circumstances I know a great many facts about him now, at the time I write. I should compare him, perhaps, with some gentlemen of the past of whom legendary traditions are still perceived among us. We are told, for instance, about the Decabrist L--n, that he was always seeking for danger, that he revelled in the sensation, and that it had become a craving of his nature; that in his youth he had rushed into duels for nothing; that in Siberia he used to go to kill bears with nothing but a knife; that in the Siberian forests he liked to meet with runaway convicts, who are, I may observe in passing, more formidable than bears. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
