The Possessed the Devils

The Possessed, also known as The Devils, is a novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky that was first published in 1872. The story is set in a provincial Russian town and revolves around a group of radicals who seek to overthrow the government and establish a new social order. The main character, Nikolai Stavrogin, is a charismatic and enigmatic figure who becomes involved with the group and its leader, Pyotr Verkhovensky. As the plot unfolds, the characters become increasingly unstable and violent, leading to a series of shocking events that culminate in a brutal murder. Along the way, Dostoyevsky explores themes of political and social upheaval, religious faith and doubt, and the nature of evil.
