Beskrivelse af The Man Without A Country
""The Man Without A Country"" is a novella written by American author Edward Everett Hale. The story follows the life of Philip Nolan, a young army officer who becomes embroiled in a political scandal and is subsequently sentenced to spend the rest of his life on board American naval vessels without ever setting foot on American soil. As the years pass, Nolan becomes increasingly bitter and disillusioned with his country, and eventually declares that he wishes to renounce his citizenship and become a ""man without a country."" The story is a powerful meditation on patriotism, loyalty, and the consequences of political extremism, and has become a classic of American literature. And then the old man took off his own sword of ceremony, and gave it to Nolan, and made him put it on. The man told me this who saw it. Nolan cried like a baby, and well he might. He had not worn a sword since that infernal day at Fort Adams. But always afterwards on occasions of ceremony, he wore that quaint old French sword of the commodore's.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
