Beskrivelse af The Argonautica
The Argonautica is an epic poem written by Apollonius Rhodius in the 3rd century BC. The poem tells the story of Jason and the Argonauts, a group of Greek heroes who set out on a quest to find the Golden Fleece. The story is set in the ancient world, and follows the adventures of the Argonauts as they face a series of challenges and obstacles on their journey. The poem is divided into four books, each of which tells a different part of the story. The first book introduces the characters and sets the scene for the quest. The second book describes the journey of the Argonauts to Colchis, where the Golden Fleece is located. The third book tells the story of Jason's encounter with Medea, the daughter of the king of Colchis. Finally, the fourth book describes the return journey of the Argonauts to Greece. The Argonautica is a classic work of Greek literature, and is known for its vivid descriptions of the ancient world and its characters. It is also notable for its use of epic similes, which compare events in the story to natural phenomena or everyday objects. The poem has been influential in the development of Western literature, and has inspired many other works of fiction and poetry.Beginning with thee, O Phoebus, I will recount the famous deeds of men of old, who, at the behest of King Pelias, down through the mouth of Pontus and between the Cyanean rocks, sped well-benched Argo in quest of the golden fleece. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
