Beskrivelse af The Argonautica
The Argonautica is an epic poem written by Apollonius Rhodius in the 3rd century BC. The poem tells the story of Jason and the Argonauts, a group of heroes who set out on a quest to find the Golden Fleece. The journey takes them through dangerous waters, treacherous lands, and encounters with mythical creatures such as the Harpies and the dragon guarding the Golden Fleece. Along the way, Jason falls in love with the sorceress Medea, who helps him in his quest but ultimately leads to his downfall. The Argonautica is a masterpiece of Greek literature, blending adventure, romance, and mythology into a compelling narrative. It is considered one of the most important works of the Hellenistic period and has influenced countless writers and artists throughout history.Beginning with thee, O Phoebus, I will recount the famous deeds of men of old, who, at the behest of King Pelias, down through the mouth of Pontus and between the Cyanean rocks, sped well-benched Argo in quest of the golden fleece. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
