Beskrivelse af Queen of Spades
""Queen of Spades"" is a novel written by E. P. Roe. The story revolves around a young woman named Edith Lyle who lives in New York City. Edith is the daughter of a wealthy businessman and has been raised in a life of luxury. However, she is not content with her life and longs for something more meaningful. One day, Edith meets a young man named Jack Dudley who is a struggling artist. Despite their different backgrounds, the two fall in love and decide to get married. However, Edith's father disapproves of the match and forbids the marriage.Determined to be with Jack, Edith runs away and elopes with him. They settle in a small town where Jack continues to pursue his art while Edith becomes involved in the local community. However, their happiness is short-lived when Jack becomes seriously ill and Edith is forced to make a difficult decision. The novel explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the pursuit of happiness. It is a classic tale of a woman's journey to find meaning and purpose in her life.""Queen it, did you say?"" cried Sue, in great spirits. ""Well, then, I shall be queen of spades. Get 'em, and come with me. Bring a pickaxe, too."" She led the way to a point not far from the dwelling, and resumed: ""A hole here, father, a hole there, Hiram, big enough for a small hemlock, and holes all along the northeast side of the house. Then lots more holes, all over the lawn, for oaks, maples, dogwood, and all sorts to pretty trees, especially evergreens.'This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
