Bag om Herland

Herland is a utopian novel written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The book tells the story of three American men who stumble upon a hidden society of women living in isolation in the mountains of South America. The women of Herland have created a perfect society, free from war, crime, and poverty. They have developed their own language, architecture, and technology, and have no need for men. The men are initially skeptical of this society, but as they learn more about it, they begin to question their own beliefs about gender roles and the nature of civilization. The book explores themes of gender, society, and utopia, and offers a vision of a world where women are equal to men and cooperation and compassion are valued above competition and aggression. What I'm trying to show here is that with these women the whole relationship of life counted in a glad, eager growing-up to join the ranks of workers in the line best loved; a deep, tender reverence for one's own mother--too deep for them to speak of freely--and beyond that, the whole, free, wide range of sisterhood, the splendid service of the country, and friendships. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
