The book titled ""The Examinations And Writings Of John Philpot, Archdeacon Of Winchester, Martyr 1555"" is a collection of writings and accounts of the life of John Philpot, who was an Archdeacon of Winchester and a Christian martyr who was burned at the stake for his beliefs in 1555. The book includes Philpot's examinations and interrogations by authorities during his imprisonment, as well as his letters and other writings. These writings provide insight into Philpot's religious beliefs and the political and religious climate of England during the reign of Queen Mary I. The book serves as a historical document of the persecution of Protestants during this time and provides a glimpse into the life and faith of one of its victims. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

The Parker Society was the London-based Anglican society that printed in fifty-four volumes the works of the leading English Reformers of the sixteenth century. It was formed in 1840 and disbanded in 1855 when its work was completed. Named after Matthew Parker -- the first Elizabethan Archbishop of Canterbury, who was known as a great collector of books -- the stimulus for the foundation of the society was provided by the Tractarian movement, led by John Henry Newman and Edward B. Pusey. Some members of this movement spoke disparagingly of the English Reformation, and so some members of the Church of England felt the need to make available in an attractive form the works of the leaders of that Reformation.
