Beskrivelse af A Gentleman Of France
""A Gentleman of France"" is a historical novel by Stanley Weyman, set in 16th century France during the reign of King Henry III. The story follows the adventures of a young Gascon nobleman named Philippe de Marsac, who becomes embroiled in the political and religious conflicts of the time. After being falsely accused of murder, Philippe joins the Catholic League and becomes a trusted agent of the Duke of Guise, one of the leaders of the Catholic faction. Along the way, he falls in love with the beautiful and courageous Gabrielle de Montgomery, a Protestant noblewoman who is also caught up in the turmoil of the era. As Philippe navigates the treacherous waters of court intrigue and military campaigns, he must also confront his own personal demons and come to terms with his loyalty to his faith and his country. With vivid descriptions of battles, duels, and courtly ceremonies, ""A Gentleman of France"" is a thrilling tale of adventure, romance, and political intrigue in one of the most fascinating periods of French history.Weyman loved 16th Century France, intrigue and swashbuckling. Some said he was like Dumas, without all the tediuous little bits. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
