Beskrivelse af Wilhelm Tell
Wilhelm Tell is a play written by Friedrich von Schiller in 1804. It is set in Switzerland in the early 14th century and tells the story of the Swiss struggle for independence from the Habsburg Empire. The play centers around the legendary Swiss hero Wilhelm Tell, who is forced to shoot an apple off his son's head with a crossbow by the ruling Austrian governor, Gessler. The plot thickens as Tell becomes involved in a plot to overthrow the Austrian rule and restore Swiss independence. The play explores themes of freedom, patriotism, and the power of the individual to stand up against tyranny. It is considered one of Schiller's most famous works and a masterpiece of German literature.GESSL. Then, Tell, since at a hundred yards thou canst Bring down the apple from the tree, thou shalt Approve thy skill before me. Take thy bow-- Thou hast it there at hand--make ready, then, To shoot an apple from the stripling's head! But take this counsel, --look well to thine aim, See, that thou hit'st the apple at the first, For, shouldst thou miss, thy head shall pay the forfeit. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
