Beskrivelse af Volpone
Volpone is a play written by the English playwright Ben Jonson, first performed in 1606. The play is a comedy that satirizes greed and corruption in society. The story is set in Venice and revolves around the wealthy and cunning Volpone, who pretends to be on his deathbed in order to trick his greedy acquaintances into giving him gifts and money. His plan is successful until a young man named Bonario becomes suspicious and tries to expose him. Along the way, there are numerous subplots involving other characters, including Volpone's servant Mosca and a group of merchants. The play is known for its use of intricate wordplay and clever plot twists, and is considered one of Jonson's greatest works. It is also notable for its commentary on the corrupt nature of society and the dangers of greed.A Hold thee, Mosca, Take of my hand; thou strik'st on truth, in all: And they are enuious, terme thee Parasite. Call forth my Dwarfe, my Eunuch, and my Foole, And let them make me sport. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
