Viviendo en dos Lenguas es un recorrido por la memoria, el poder de la palabra y la capacidad de resiliencia de la mano de estudiantes de la clase de español para hablantes de herencia del colegio comunitario de Chemeketa. Son historias de vida, donde los protagonistas experimentan realidades complejas de inmigración, violencia, discriminación, y opresión lingüstica. Sin embargo, en una narrativa valiente, marcada por una introspección profunda, hacen de la adversidad, su potencial. Los estudiantes retoman su capital lingüstico y públicamente hacen que sus voces trasciendan y sus historias perduren, como un acto de amor a su lengua materna, en una dinámica de alternancia contacto, hasta de amalgamamiento entre el español y el inglés, lejos de toda supresión. Este libro puede servir para estudios en el campo de ciencias sociales y humanas. También, como material de consulta o de inspiración para profesores y estudiantes que quieran realizar experiencias similares.
Living In Two Languages is a journey through memory, the power of the word, and the capacity for resilience by students in the Spanish for Heritage Speakers at Chemeketa Community College. These are life stories, where the protagonists experience the complex realities of immigration, violence, discrimination, and linguistic oppression. However, in a brave narrative, marked by deep introspection, they make adversity their potential. In a public way, the students make their voices transcend and their stories endure, as an act of love to their mother tongue. All this in a dynamic of alternation or contact, even of amalgamation between Spanish and English, far from any societal suppression. This book can be used for studies in the field of social and human sciences and as reference or inspiration material for teachers and students who want to carry out similar experiences.
