Utilization of WCO biodiesel and n-butanol in DI Diesel Engine

Utilization of WCO biodiesel and n-butanol in DI Diesel Engineaf Sunil Kumar Mahla
Bag om Utilization of WCO biodiesel and n-butanol in DI Diesel Engine

In recent years, two problems roused people¿s concern. One is energy crisis caused by the depleting of petroleum fuel. The other is environmental issues such as greenhouse effect, global warming, etc. Therefore, renewable sources utilization technology and bio-energy production technology developed fast for solving such two problems. From a waste management standpoint, producing biodiesel from used frying oil is environmentally beneficial, since it provides a cleaner way for disposing these products; meanwhile, it can yield valuable cuts in Carbon dioxide as well as significant tail-pipe pollution gains. Butanol is a potential alternative to ethanol and offers many benefits including a much higher heating value and lower latent heat of vaporization. It also has a higher cetane number than ethanol and improved miscibility in diesel fuel. This work includes production of biodiesel from waste cooking oil (using trans-esterification reaction at 6:1 molar ratio), its properties and engine testing and comparison to biodiesel and butanol blends and neat diesel.Experimental work was conducted to evaluate the effect of using n-butanol and biodiesel in conventional DI diesel engine.
