Beskrivelse af Typee Typee
Typee is a novel written by Herman Melville, first published in 1846. The book is a fictionalized account of Melville's own experiences as a sailor on a whaling ship in the South Pacific. The story follows the adventures of Tommo, a sailor who jumps ship on the island of Nuku Hiva and is taken in by the Typee tribe. The Typee are a Polynesian people who live in a valley surrounded by steep cliffs, and Tommo is initially fascinated by their customs and way of life. However, as he becomes more familiar with the tribe, he begins to suspect that they are not as friendly as they seem. The book is notable for its vivid descriptions of life in Polynesia, as well as its exploration of themes such as cultural difference, colonialism, and the nature of humanity. It is considered one of Melville's most popular and accessible works, and is often studied as an early example of American literary naturalism.Sailors are the only class of men who now-a-days see anything like stirring adventure; and many things which to fire-side people appear strange and romantic, to them seem as commonplace as a jacket out at elbows. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
