Beskrivelse af Trilby
Trilby is a novel written by George Du Maurier, first published in 1894. The story is set in Paris in the 1850s and follows the lives of three English artists, Taffy, the Laird, and Little Billee, who live together in the Latin Quarter. They are all infatuated with a beautiful and mysterious woman named Trilby, who works as a model for their friend, the Jewish musician Svengali.Trilby is a young woman with a captivating voice and a talent for singing, but she is also vulnerable and easily manipulated. Svengali, who is obsessed with Trilby, uses his hypnotic powers to control her and turn her into a successful singer. However, his hold over her becomes increasingly dangerous and destructive as he forces her to perform against her will and exploits her for his own gain. The novel explores themes of love, art, and the power of suggestion. It also delves into the dark side of human nature and the dangers of unchecked ambition. Trilby is a classic novel of the Victorian era and has been adapted into several films and stage productions. It remains a popular and influential work of literature today.Mon ami, an apple is an excellent thing -- until you have tried a peach! Her voice to that of Alboni is as a peach to an apple--I give you my word of honour! but bah! the voice is a detail. It's what she does with it--it's incredible! it gives one cold all down the back! it drives you mad! it makes you weep hot tears by the spoonful! Ah! the tear, mon fy! tenez! I can draw everything but that! Ca n'est pas dans mes cordes! I can only madden with love! But La Svengali! . . . And then, in the middle of it all, prrrout! . . . she makes you laugh! Ah! le beau rire! faire rire avec des larmes plein les yeux--voila qui me passe! .. . Mon ami, when I heard her it made me swear that even I would never try to sing any more. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
