When Alexander the Great, king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon, conquered nearly all of the Middle Eastern nations from 331 to 323 BC, his influence established changes that exist to this very day. None are more important than the introduction of the Greek language to all of his conquered territories. Peoples of the Middle East soon abandoned their language of birth in favor of the new Greek language. Soon after, Jewish rabbis could no longer understand their own scriptures, which were written in ancient Hebrew.
