Viola Davis gives a ground-breaking performance as General Nanisca, the commander of the Agojie warriors, demonstrating that she has yet to tap into the full range of her acting powers.....The Woman King pushes the rules in several ways that might cause it to age as terribly as Gladiator and Braveheart. Of course, anybody wanting absolute truth from the drama worlds of Hollywood is best off searching elsewhere.
The movie has lately come under fire for elevating the women fighters while downplaying the Dahomey tribe's participation in the slave trade.....
