Beskrivelse af The Witch of the Wilderness
It's 1689, and the Devil has come to Maine.
When Deliverance Ashe discovers the body of a beautiful, branded girl in the woods, she knows she's found a witch. Liv tries to be everything a Puritan girl should be: obedient, faithful. She knows she should leave the witch to rot. But she doesn't. She buries her, even says a prayer for her soul.
The next day, everything goes wrong for Liv. Her drunk, violent uncle is accused of witchcraft and jailed; she's forced to bind her young sister out into servitude; and now, a strange girl is lurking around Liv's farm. A girl with a brand just like the witch's.
The girl, Kit, swears she's not a witch. She's only a Quaker, something equally heretical, perhaps, but far less dangerous. Kit makes Liv an offer: she'll help Liv survive on her own if given a place to stay. The girls form a tenuous friendship, and Liv worries her feelings are morphing into something more dangerous than affection.
Their small store of peace is shattered, however, as bodies seemingly marked by the Devil begin piling up. Accusations of witchcraft fly. And when all eyes turn to Liv, she'll have to find a way to prove her innocence. But it's not so simple, because in Puritan New England, claiming your innocence is as good as admitting your guilt.
