Beskrivelse af The Smoky God
The Smoky God is a novel written by Willis George Emerson, first published in 1908. The book tells the story of Olaf Jansen, a Norwegian sailor who claims to have sailed into the Earth's interior through a polar opening at the North Pole. Olaf and his father encounter a civilization of giants, who are illuminated by a central sun and live in a utopian society free from war and disease. The two explorers spend two years living among the giants, learning their ways and gaining knowledge about the Earth's inner workings before eventually returning to the surface world. The book is a work of speculative fiction and draws on contemporary theories about the hollow Earth and the possibility of polar openings. The Smoky God is a fascinating and imaginative tale that has captured the imagination of readers for over a century.About three-fourths of the ""inner"" surface of the earth is land and about one-fourth water. There are numerous rivers of tremendous size, some flowing in a northerly direction and others southerly. Some of these rivers are thirty miles in width, and it is out of these vast waterways, at the extreme northern and southern parts of the ""inside"" surface of the earth, in regions where low temperatures are experienced, that fresh-water icebergs are formed. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
