Beskrivelse af The Skin Game
The Skin Game is a novel written by John Galsworthy, an English writer and playwright. The book tells the story of two families, the Hillcrists and the Hornblowers, who are in a bitter dispute over a piece of land. The Hillcrists are wealthy landowners who have lived in the area for generations, while the Hornblowers are nouveau riche and have recently moved into the area. The Hornblowers are determined to buy the land from the Hillcrists, but the Hillcrists refuse to sell it to them. The dispute between the two families becomes increasingly heated, with both sides resorting to underhanded tactics to try to gain the upper hand. As the conflict escalates, the characters are forced to confront their own moral values and the true cost of their actions. The Skin Game is a powerful exploration of class conflict, greed, and the corrupting influence of money. It is a timeless classic that remains relevant to this day.HILLCRIST. Well, when I sold Hornblower Longmeadow and the cottages, I certainly found him all right. All the same, he's got the cloven hoof. [Warming up] His influence in Deepwater is thoroughly bad; those potteries of his are demoralising--the whole atmosphere of the place is changing. It was a thousand pities he ever came here and discovered that clay. He's brought in the modern cutthroat spirit. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
