The Rhinegold And The Valkyrie (1910)

Bag om The Rhinegold And The Valkyrie (1910)

The Rhinegold And The Valkyrie is the first part of Richard Wagner's epic opera cycle, Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung). It was first performed in 1876 and published in 1910. The story is based on Norse mythology and follows the struggles of gods, heroes, and mortals as they seek power and love. The Rhinegold tells the story of the theft of the Rhinegold, a magical treasure that gives its owner immense power, by the dwarf Alberich. The god Wotan and his wife Fricka are forced to make a deal with the giants Fafner and Fasolt to build them a castle in exchange for the Rhinegold. However, Wotan tricks the giants and keeps the Rhinegold for himself. In The Valkyrie, the second part of the cycle, the story focuses on the children of Wotan. His daughter, the Valkyrie Brnnhilde, disobeys Wotan's orders and helps the hero Siegmund in his fight against his enemies. This leads to a conflict between Wotan and his wife Fricka, who demands that Siegmund be punished for breaking the laws of marriage. Wotan ultimately agrees to let Siegmund die, but Brnnhilde saves his wife and unborn child and is punished by Wotan for her disobedience. The Rhinegold And The Valkyrie is a complex and multi-layered work that explores themes of power, love, betrayal, and redemption. It is known for its innovative use of leitmotifs, or recurring musical themes, to represent characters and ideas. The opera has been widely performed and recorded, and remains a cornerstone of the classical music repertoire. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
