Beskrivelse af The Reign Of Greed
The Reign of Greed is a novel written by the Filipino national hero, Jose Rizal. The book tells the story of a wealthy and corrupt businessman named Simoun, who seeks revenge against the Spanish colonial government that caused the death of his loved ones. Simoun uses his wealth and influence to manipulate and control the people around him, including the government officials and the revolutionary leaders. He plans to stage a revolution and overthrow the colonial government, but his intentions are not entirely pure. Simoun's true motivation is to gain power and wealth for himself, and he is willing to sacrifice anyone, including his own allies, to achieve his goals. The novel explores themes of greed, corruption, and the struggle for independence in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period. It is considered one of Rizal's most significant works and a masterpiece of Philippine literature. But he suddenly checked himself, as if he had said too much and wished to correct his imprudence. ""The government has given us things that we have not asked for, and that we could not ask for, because to ask--to ask, presupposes that it is in some way incompetent and consequently is not performing its functions. To suggest to it a course of action, to try to guide it, when not really antagonizing it, is to presuppose that it is capable of erring, and as I have already said to you such suppositions are menaces to the existence of colonial governments. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
