Beskrivelse af The Puritan And His Daughter
The Puritan And His Daughter is a novel written by James Kirke Paulding. Set in the 17th century, the book tells the story of a Puritan named Matthew Wolcott and his daughter, Ruth. Matthew is a devout Puritan who believes in living a life of simplicity and piety. He lives with his daughter Ruth in a small village in New England. Ruth is a beautiful and intelligent young woman who has captured the attention of many of the young men in the village. However, her father is strict and protective, and he is determined to find a suitable husband for her. The story takes a dramatic turn when a group of Native Americans attack the village, killing many of the settlers and taking others captive. Among the captives is Ruth, who is taken by the Native American chief, Wampanoag. Matthew is devastated by the loss of his daughter and becomes consumed with finding her and bringing her back home. He sets out on a perilous journey through the wilderness, facing many dangers and obstacles along the way. As Matthew searches for his daughter, Ruth is forced to adapt to life among the Native Americans. She learns their language and customs and begins to form a bond with Wampanoag. However, she never forgets her father and longs to be reunited with him. The Puritan And His Daughter is a captivating tale of love, loss, and redemption. It explores themes of cultural differences, family values, and the power of faith. With vivid descriptions of the New England wilderness and unforgettable characters, this novel is a must-read for fans of historical fiction.During the somewhat tedious recovery of Harold, and his subsequent irresolution, both parties had been engaged in active hostilities, unaccompanied by any decisive result. The battle of Edgehill had been fought with doubtful success, and the intervals of action were occupied by negociations in which, it is believed neither party was sincere. Mutual propositions for peace were made and declined under various pretences, and it had become evident to those who looked beneath the surface, that the contest could only be decided by the sword. Accordingly, both parties braced themselves for the final issue. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
