Beskrivelse af The Profligate
The Profligate is a play written by Arthur Wing Pinero and first performed in 1890. The play is set in Victorian England and revolves around the character of Leonard Charteris, a young man who has inherited a large fortune from his father. Leonard is a charming and handsome man who spends his days indulging in his vices, such as drinking and gambling, and pursuing his romantic interests. The play begins with Leonard returning to England after spending several years in Paris. He is greeted by his mother, Lady Charteris, who is concerned about his reckless behavior and the effect it may have on his inheritance. Leonard's behavior only worsens when he meets a beautiful young woman named Grace Tranfield and becomes infatuated with her. As the play progresses, Leonard's reckless behavior leads him down a dangerous path. He becomes involved in a scandalous affair with Grace, which threatens to ruin both of their reputations. In the end, Leonard is forced to confront the consequences of his actions and make a choice between his love for Grace and his responsibility to his family and society. The Profligate is a powerful commentary on the social norms and expectations of Victorian society, particularly with regards to the behavior of young men from wealthy families. Pinero's play explores themes of love, responsibility, and the consequences of one's actions, making it a compelling and thought-provoking read. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
