Beskrivelse af The Professor
The Professor is a novel by Charlotte Bronte, published posthumously in 1857. The story follows the life of William Crimsworth, a young man who is orphaned and forced to make his own way in the world. He becomes a teacher at a boys' school in Brussels, where he falls in love with a fellow teacher, Frances Henri. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Frances is engaged to another man. As William navigates his way through the challenges of teaching and love, he also grapples with issues of class and social status. He is acutely aware of his lower social standing and struggles to fit in with the wealthy and aristocratic families who send their sons to the school. The Professor is notable for its portrayal of a strong, independent female character in Frances Henri. She is intelligent, ambitious, and unafraid to challenge the patriarchal norms of her time. The novel also explores themes of education, morality, and the search for personal fulfillment. Overall, The Professor is a thought-provoking and engaging novel that offers a glimpse into the social and cultural mores of 19th-century Europe. No man likes to acknowledge that he has made a mistake in the choice of his profession, and every man, worthy of the name, will row long against wind and tide before he allows himself to cry out, ""I am baffled!"" and submits to be floated passively back to land. From the first week of my residence in X---- I felt my occupation irksome. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
