Beskrivelse af The Orchard Pavilion
The Orchard Pavilion is a novel written by Arthur Christopher Benson, first published in 1914. The story revolves around a group of friends who gather at a country house in the English countryside for a summer retreat. The main character, Richard, is a successful writer who is struggling with writer's block and finds himself drawn to a young woman named Lucy, who is staying at the house with her father. As the days go by, Richard becomes increasingly obsessed with Lucy, leading to a series of events that threaten to destroy their idyllic summer. The novel explores themes of love, desire, and the complexities of human relationships, as well as the beauty and tranquility of the English countryside. Benson's writing style is elegant and lyrical, evoking the sights, sounds, and sensations of nature in vivid detail. The Orchard Pavilion is a timeless classic that continues to captivate readers with its timeless story of love and longing.1914. Son of the hymnist Edward Benson, A.C. Benson was a well-known poet. He wrote the Coronation Ode for Edward VII's coronation in 1902. The Orchard Pavilion is one of his novels and begins: It was the pavilion which had first attracted Roderick Armitage to the place; he had caught a sight of its slender stone chimney, with the queer pierced ornament at the top, above the flowering apple-trees. Roderick had a pleasant taste for the style and aspect of houses, and saw beauties of proportion and material where many people could see none. It was in one of his undergraduate vacations, and he was rambling about the Cotswolds alone-that was one of his fancies. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
