The Lost Trimester is... a book for every woman who has felt alone, in a time she should have felt surrounded. Created in hopes that these words can help them navigate their grief by guiding them to lean into the parts that brought them to their healing voyage, so that one day they'll know sorrow and happiness can coexist in a bruised heart. Purposely curated in a linear narrative, The Lost Trimester takes the reader on an empathetic journey through the emotional roller coaster of conceiving and pregnancy loss, for a raw inside look at the physical and mental pain it causes. These poems are just as vulnerably ugly as they are beautiful and alleviating. Page by page, Williams is exposing society for stigmatizing an inevitable part of life while creating a space for an open dialogue about pregnancy loss. Her diary-like writing style adds a relatable touch, shedding light on the feelings of others during an unwanted but shared female experience.
