Beskrivelse af The London Merchant
The London Merchant: Or The History of George Barnwell is a play written by George Lillo in 1763. The play tells the story of George Barnwell, a young apprentice who is tempted by a woman named Millwood to steal money from his employer. As George becomes more involved with Millwood, he begins to neglect his work and his family. Eventually, Millwood convinces George to rob his employer and run away with her. However, their plan goes awry and Millwood is killed in the process. George is caught and brought to trial, where he is found guilty and sentenced to death. The play is a cautionary tale about the dangers of temptation and the consequences of giving in to it. It was popular in its time and is considered a classic of English literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
