Beskrivelse af The Lion's Skin a Romance
The Lion's Skin is a historical romance novel written by Rafael Sabatini. The story is set in the 17th century and follows the life of the protagonist, Anthony Wilding. Anthony is a notorious English adventurer who is known for his bravery and cunning. He is also a master of disguise, which he uses to his advantage in his various exploits. The story begins with Anthony being falsely accused of a crime and fleeing to France to escape prosecution. While in France, he meets and falls in love with a beautiful French noblewoman named Claire de Gannes. However, their love is forbidden due to their different social statuses, and they must keep their relationship a secret. To complicate matters further, Anthony's arch-nemesis, the Duke of Orsino, is also in France and is determined to capture and punish Anthony for his alleged crimes. Anthony must use all of his wit and cunning to outsmart the Duke and protect himself and Claire. As the story unfolds, Anthony finds himself in increasingly dangerous situations, but he is determined to stay true to himself and his love for Claire. The Lion's Skin is a thrilling adventure full of romance, intrigue, and suspense that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very end.1926. After a brief stint in the business world, Sabatini went to work as a writer. He wrote short stories in the 1890s, and his first novel came out in 1902. It took Sabatini roughly a quarter of century of hard work before he attained success with Scaramouche in 1921. This brilliant novel of the French Revolution became an international bestseller. It was followed by the equally successful Captain Blood in 1922. A prolific writer, he produced about a book a year. The Lion's Skin begins: Mr. Caryll, lately from Rome, stood by the window, looking out over the rain-swept, steaming quays to Notre-Dame on the island yonder. Overhead rolled and crackled the artillery of an April thunderstorm, and Mr. Caryll, looking out upon Paris in her shroud of rain under her pall of thundercloud, felt himself at harmony with nature. Over his heart, too, the gloom of storm was lowering, just as in his heart it was still little more than April-time.
