Beskrivelse af The Intruder (1898)
The Intruder is a novel written by the Italian author Gabriele DAnnunzio and first published in 1898. The story takes place in the Italian city of Pescara and revolves around the life of a young woman named Giorgina Piave. Giorgina is a beautiful and wealthy woman who is married to a man named Piero Maironi. Piero is a devout Catholic who has become disillusioned with his faith and has turned to mysticism and spiritualism in search of answers. As the story progresses, Giorgina becomes increasingly aware of her husbands growing distance from her and his obsession with spiritualism. She begins to suspect that he is having an affair with a mysterious woman named La Fosca, who is said to possess supernatural powers. Giorginas suspicions are confirmed when she discovers that Piero has been meeting with La Fosca in secret. The novel explores themes of jealousy, betrayal, and the conflict between reason and faith. DAnnunzios writing is richly descriptive and evocative, painting a vivid picture of the Italian landscape and the characters inner lives. The Intruder is considered one of DAnnunzios most important works and is widely regarded as a masterpiece of Italian literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
