Beskrivelse af The Half-Hearted (1900)
The Half-Hearted is a novel written by John Buchan and published in 1900. The story is set in the late 19th century and follows the life of Lewis Haystoun, a Scottish aristocrat who is torn between his duty to his family and his desire for adventure. Lewis is a man of contradictions, torn between his love for his childhood friend, the beautiful and headstrong Kitty, and his sense of duty to his family and their estate. When Lewis inherits the family estate, he finds himself struggling to maintain it and keep up with the changing times. He is also faced with a difficult decision when he is asked to marry his cousin, Christina, in order to secure the family fortune. Meanwhile, Kitty has become involved in the suffragette movement and is fighting for women's rights. As Lewis tries to navigate his way through these conflicting desires and responsibilities, he is drawn into a dangerous conspiracy involving his own family and a group of political extremists. With the help of Kitty and a few loyal friends, Lewis must confront his own fears and weaknesses in order to save his family and the people he loves. The Half-Hearted is a gripping tale of love, loyalty, and adventure, set against the backdrop of a changing world. Buchan's vivid descriptions of Scotland's rugged landscape and his nuanced portrayal of the characters make this novel a timeless classic. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
