Beskrivelse af The Friendship Cafe
Since my retirement from Wellness Nursing, I've completed classes in fiction writing, memoir writing and children's literature to improve my skill and grow as a writer. The Friendship Cafe is my first public offering to share humor in commonalities of growing older together. My appreciation for books did not develop until young adulthood when I discovered books held many secrets about how to make life easier and more interesting. Every day I see new technology, experiences and expectations that were foreign to my world in the fifties and sixties. Book stores, libraries and schools are full of wonderful books. I have an urge to grab an idea and see if I can develop an interesting, timeless stories. Stories help others to see a different place, find a way to deal with a situation or have fun with new friends on the printed page. Don't laugh! I keep a tablet and pen under my pillow for those sudden middle of the night revelations. Meet the baby boomer chic's who share girl talk at their local Senior Center coffee shop, the Friendship Café. Mae, a retired office manager is the practical planner, keeping the girls on tract and initiating activities. Agnes made a career of homemaking. A natural nurturer, she cannot have too many grandchildren. She stays active in her church. Her subtle sense of humor pops out at times. Daisy, with her sense of humor would say she was a kept woman, we would say socialite. She spends her senior years watching TV, going to church and keeping her hair dresser employed. She is quick with her wit. Lilly, a retired elementary teacher takes a practical approach to challenges. She writes notes to herself, loves to cook and eat resulting in her putting on pounds. At times she gets down in the dumps spurring a negative attitude and impulsive behavior. Spend a few minutes at the Friendship Café and eavesdrop on this close nit quartet of chic's, helping each other adjust to change.
