Beskrivelse af The Flower Beneath the Foot
The Flower Beneath the Foot is a novel by Ronald Firbank that tells the story of the early life of St. Laura de Nazianzi. The book is set in the fourth century and follows the life of Laura, who is born into a wealthy family in Cappadocia, a region in modern-day Turkey. Laura is a devout Christian and is determined to live a life of piety and devotion. She rejects the advances of suitors and instead devotes herself to prayer and good works. As Laura grows older, she becomes more and more interested in the monastic life. She eventually leaves her family and joins a community of nuns, where she spends the rest of her life in prayer and contemplation. The book explores Laura's spiritual journey and the challenges she faces as a woman in a male-dominated society. The Flower Beneath the Foot is a lyrical and poetic book that is rich in symbolism and imagery. Firbank's prose is highly stylized and often surreal, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that is both beautiful and unsettling. The book is a meditation on the nature of faith, love, and devotion, and is a powerful exploration of the inner life of a saint.1924. Best known for his witty, ingenious novels, Ronald Firbank began his literary apprenticeship as a writer of short stories. In his writings he cultivated a style which, through his use of dialogue and concentration of language and image, is considered today to be quite innovative. One of his most popular novels, The Flower Beneath the Foot begins: Neither her Gaudiness the Mistress of the Robes, or her Dreaminess the Queen were feeling quite themselves. In the Palace all was speculation. Would they be able to attend the Fetes in honor of King Jotifa, and Queen Thleeanouhee of the Land of Dates?-Court opinion seemed largely divided. Countess Medusa Rappa, a woman easily disturbable, was prepared to wager what the Countess of Tolga liked (she knew), that another week would find the Court shivering beneath the vaulted domes of the Summer-Palace.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
