Beskrivelse af The Emigrant (1847)
The Emigrant is a novel written by Francis Bond Head, first published in 1847. The story follows the journey of an Englishman named Charles Wainwright, who decides to emigrate to Upper Canada (now Ontario) in the early 19th century. Wainwright is motivated by a desire for adventure and a fresh start, but soon finds himself struggling to adapt to the harsh realities of life in the wilderness. As he makes his way through the Canadian wilderness, Wainwright encounters a variety of characters, including Native Americans, French-Canadian trappers, and other settlers. He also faces numerous challenges, including harsh weather, disease, and the constant threat of violence.Despite these difficulties, Wainwright perseveres, and eventually finds a measure of success and happiness in his new home. Along the way, he learns valuable lessons about the importance of hard work, self-reliance, and the need for community and friendship.Written in a lively and engaging style, The Emigrant is a vivid portrait of life in early Canada, and a testament to the resilience and determination of those who sought to build a new life in a distant land. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
