Beskrivelse af The Double Dealer
""The Double Dealer"" is a play written by William Congreve, a renowned English playwright of the late 17th century. The play is a comedy of manners which explores the themes of love, deception, and betrayal in the upper-class society of England. The plot revolves around the character of Mellefont, a young man who is in love with Cynthia, the niece of Lady Touchwood. However, Lady Touchwood is also in love with Mellefont and is willing to do anything to win his affections, including using deceit and manipulation. Meanwhile, Mellefont's friend, Maskwell, is also plotting against him, as he too is in love with Cynthia and wants to eliminate Mellefont as a rival. The play is filled with witty dialogue, intricate plot twists, and complex characters who are constantly scheming and plotting against each other. ""The Double Dealer"" is a classic example of Restoration comedy and remains a popular work of literature to this day.LORD TOUCH. I don't believe it true; he has better principles. Pho, 'tis nonsense. Come, come, I know my Lady Plyant has a large eye, and would centre everything in her own circle; 'tis not the first time she has mistaken respect for love, and made Sir Paul jealous of the civility of an undesigning person, the better to bespeak his security in her unfeigned pleasures. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
