Beskrivelse af The Devil's Disciple
The Devil's Disciple is a play written by the renowned Irish playwright, George Bernard Shaw, and was first performed in 1897. The play is set during the American Revolutionary War and tells the story of a young man named Richard Dudgeon, who is known in his small town as a notorious rebel and atheist. When the British army arrives in the town, they mistakenly arrest Dudgeon, believing him to be a local minister. However, when they realize their mistake, they plan to execute him as a rebel. To save his life, Dudgeon agrees to take the place of a local man who has been sentenced to death. As the story unfolds, Dudgeon becomes embroiled in the war and the lives of the people around him, including the minister's daughter, Judith Anderson, and her fianc, Major Swindon. The play explores themes of morality, religion, and loyalty, and is known for its wit and satire. The Devil's Disciple is considered one of Shaw's most popular plays and is often performed today. It is a classic example of Shaw's unique style, which combines humor, social commentary, and political satire. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
