The Christmas Bird

A difficult time for a family in the country produced lessons in suffering and God’s love in authors Liza and Drew Howell’s newest children’s book, The Christmas Bird. The Christmas Bird follows a young bird’s adventures when his tree home becomes the newest Christmas tree for a family. The family had recently experienced hardship when the youngest daughter, Janey, fell in the woods and now resided permanently at home. Once a singer to the woodland creatures around her, the various animals began to miss Janey’s songs and cheerfulness, especially the young bird. The family’s choice to have the Christmas bird’s tree as their Christmas tree, with the hidden bird inside, allows the bird to witness decorating the Christmas tree, seeing family togetherness and experiencing the true Christmas story. Throughout the story, we learn that God loves all and has great plans for each of us, even young birds.
