Beskrivelse af The Changeling
The Changeling is a tragicomedy play written by Thomas Middleton and William Rowley. The play is set in 17th century Spain and follows the story of Beatrice-Joanna, a wealthy noblewoman who is engaged to Alonzo de Piracquo, a man she does not love. Beatrice-Joanna is secretly in love with Alsemero, a young man who has recently arrived in town. To get rid of her unwanted fianc, Beatrice-Joanna hires a servant named De Flores to murder him. However, De Flores demands that she pay him with her body in return for his services. Beatrice-Joanna reluctantly agrees, but the consequences of her actions spiral out of control as De Flores becomes obsessed with her. The play explores themes of love, lust, betrayal, and the consequences of one's actions. It is known for its dark and twisted plot, as well as its complex characters. The Changeling is considered one of Middleton's most popular works and has been adapted into various forms of media, including operas, ballets, and films.FRANCISCUS Luna is now big-bellied, and there's room For both of us to ride with Hecate; I'll drag thee up into her silver sphere, And there we'll kick the dog, and beat the bush That barks against the witches of the night. The swift lycanthropi that walks the round, We'll tear their wolvish skins, and save the sheep. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
