Beskrivelse af The Celibates
The Celibates is a novel written by Honore De Balzac, a French novelist and playwright. The story is set in Paris during the early 19th century and revolves around the lives of three celibate men - a lawyer, a painter, and a doctor. The lawyer, Felix de Vandenesse, is a young man who has recently returned to Paris after spending several years in the army. He is handsome, charming, and intelligent, but he is also emotionally distant and struggles to form meaningful relationships with others. The painter, Charles-Edouard de la Palferine, is a wealthy and talented artist who is known for his scandalous behavior. He is a womanizer and has a reputation for being unfaithful to his lovers. Despite this, he is deeply unhappy and longs for a deeper connection with someone. The doctor, Jean-Jacques Brousson, is a middle-aged man who is dedicated to his work. He is respected by his colleagues and patients, but he is also lonely and isolated. He has never married and has few friends outside of work. As the novel progresses, the three men become friends and confidants. They share their secrets, hopes, and fears with each other, and they provide support and comfort during difficult times. Along the way, they also encounter several women who challenge their beliefs about love, relationships, and the meaning of life. The Celibates is a complex and nuanced exploration of human relationships, loneliness, and the search for meaning in life. It is a timeless work of literature that continues to resonate with readers today. When the time came to begin their education, disasters came, too. Jacques, left without means at the death of his father, was apprenticed by his relatives to a cabinet-maker, and fed by charity, as Pierrette was soon to be at Saint-Jacques. Until the little girl was taken with her grandparents to that asylum, she had known nothing but fond caresses and protection from every one. Accustomed to confide in so much love, the little darling missed in these rich relatives, so eagerly desired, the kindly looks and ways which all the world, even strangers and the conductors of the coaches, had bestowed upon her. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
