The Captives is a novel written by John Gay. The story is set in the 18th century and revolves around the lives of two young lovers, Damon and Delia. Damon is the son of a wealthy merchant, while Delia is the daughter of a poor farmer. Despite their different backgrounds, they fall in love and plan to marry. However, Damon's father disapproves of the match and forces Damon to marry another woman.Delia is heartbroken and decides to run away from home. She is captured by a group of pirates and taken to their island hideout. Damon, who is also on the island, discovers Delia and they plan their escape together. However, their plans are complicated by the presence of the pirate captain, who has his own plans for Delia.The novel explores themes of love, class, and adventure. It is a gripping tale of two young people who are determined to be together, despite the obstacles that stand in their way.
