Beskrivelse af The Brute
The Brute is a novella written by Joseph Conrad. The story is set in the late 19th century and revolves around the life of a sailor named James Wait. Wait is a brutish and violent man who is feared by his fellow sailors. He is known for his physical strength and his ability to intimidate others. The story begins with Wait joining the crew of a ship called the Narcissus. The crew is made up of men from different countries and backgrounds, and they all have their own reasons for being on the ship. Wait quickly establishes himself as the leader of the crew, using his strength and aggression to maintain control. As the voyage progresses, Wait's behavior becomes increasingly erratic and violent. He begins to lash out at his fellow sailors, and the tension on the ship grows. The other crew members are afraid of him, but they also pity him, as they suspect that he is suffering from some kind of mental illness. The climax of the story comes when the ship is hit by a storm. Wait becomes delirious and begins to attack his fellow sailors. In the chaos that follows, the crew is forced to confront the reality of their situation and the danger that Wait poses to them all.The Brute is a powerful and haunting story that explores the darker side of human nature. It is a gripping tale of survival and desperation, and a vivid portrayal of life on the high seas. What's madness? Only something just a tiny bit wrong in the make of your brain. Why shouldn't there be a mad ship--I mean mad in a ship-like way, so that under no circumstances could you be sure she would do what any other sensible ship would naturally do for you. There are ships that steer wildly, and ships that can't be quite trusted always to stay; others want careful watching when running in a gale; and, again, there may be a ship that will make heavy weather of it in every little blow. But then you expect her to be always so.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
