Beskrivelse af The Beaux-Stratagem
The Beaux-Stratagem is a comedic play written by George Farquhar and first published in 1707. The play is set in the town of Lichfield, England, and follows the adventures of two young men, Aimwell and Archer, who have come to the town to find wealthy wives. The two men pose as master and servant and set out to charm the local ladies, but soon find themselves caught up in a web of deceit and intrigue. Along the way, they encounter a cast of colorful characters, including a highwayman, a drunkard, and a wealthy widow with a dark secret. The play is known for its witty dialogue, clever plot twists, and lively characters, and has been performed on stage and adapted for film and television numerous times over the years. Farquhar's play is considered a classic of Restoration comedy, and is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of English theatre. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
