Beskrivelse af The Admirable Crichton
The Admirable Crichton is a novel written by William Harrison Ainsworth. The story is set in the late 19th century and revolves around the life of Lord Loam, a wealthy British nobleman, and his family. Lord Loam is a progressive thinker who believes in the equality of all people, regardless of their social status. He decides to take his family and a few of his servants on a yacht trip to explore the South Pacific islands.During the trip, the yacht is caught in a storm and crashes on a deserted island. The only survivors are Lord Loam, his three daughters, and his butler, Crichton. The group is forced to fend for themselves and adapt to their new surroundings. Crichton, who is skilled in survival and leadership, takes charge and becomes the group's leader. As time passes, the group's social hierarchy begins to shift. Crichton, who was once a servant, becomes the most respected and admired member of the group. Lord Loam and his daughters, who were once accustomed to a life of luxury and privilege, must learn to rely on Crichton's skills and knowledge to survive. The novel explores themes of social class, power, and the human condition. It is a thought-provoking and entertaining read that will leave readers questioning their own beliefs about society and the roles we play within it.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
