Beskrivelse af Terrors Of The Law
Terrors of the Law is a book written by Francis Watt and first published in 1902. The book contains three portraits of infamous lawyers from Scottish history: Bloody Jeffreys, The Bluidy Advocate Mackenzie, and The Original Weir of Hermiston. Bloody Jeffreys was a judge during the reign of King James II who was known for his harsh and cruel punishments. The Bluidy Advocate Mackenzie was a lawyer who gained notoriety for his role in the persecution of Presbyterian Covenanters in the late 17th century. The Original Weir of Hermiston was a character created by Robert Louis Stevenson and based on the real-life judge, Lord Braxfield.Through these three portraits, Watt explores the darker side of the legal profession and the abuse of power that can occur within it. The book is a fascinating look at the history of Scottish law and the individuals who shaped it, as well as a cautionary tale about the dangers of unchecked authority. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
