Beskrivelse af Telling Tides
Forty-something Robert finds himself fallen from grace, in a midlife crisis, and sent on an enforced sabbatical in a Cornish fishing village. Cut off from his life in the City, he struggles with the loss of his career, wife, and home. He congratulates himself on never getting too emotionally involved with anyone, and this life philosophy considerably lessens the blow of his sudden dismissal and the betrayal of his wife and friends. Whilst exploring the Cornish countryside and coast, his curiosity is stirred by the local folklore and history, and soon the rugged land between the seas and its colourful people fascinate him. He develops a particular interest in Lucy, a headstrong single mother, and holistic healer. Enjoying her reputation as a witch, thanks to a gipsy godmother, gifted with second sight and effortlessly reading his thoughts, Lucy insists on interfering in his life and dishing out unsolicited advice. When Lucy's glamorous, and self-proclaimed lesbian, sister Miranda returns, Robert is thoroughly confused and in emotional turmoil. Equally fascinated by both sisters, whose complicated relationship has a strange, destructive dynamic, he falls under their very different spells. The discovery of a horribly mutilated body forces Robert into closer involvement with the locals, and reveals this part of the world as far from peaceful and sleepy. As he turns amateur detective, Robert uncovers links between the brutal murder, rural corruption, and a well-organized criminal fraternity. And soon enough Robert starts to suspect his new-found friends, who all seem to be revelling in mystery and intrigue.
