Beskrivelse af Tell it All A Woman's Life in Polygamy
Tell it All: A Woman's Life in Polygamy is a memoir written by Fanny Stenhouse, a former member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) who lived in polygamy. The book was first published in 1874 and caused controversy within the LDS community due to its candid portrayal of the practice of polygamy. In the book, Stenhouse recounts her life growing up in England and her eventual conversion to the LDS faith. She then details her move to Utah with her husband, T.B.H. Stenhouse, and their entry into the practice of polygamy. Stenhouse describes the emotional turmoil and jealousy she experienced as her husband took additional wives and the difficulties of trying to raise a family in a polygamous household.Stenhouse also discusses the political and social climate surrounding polygamy in Utah during the mid-19th century, including the church's efforts to keep the practice a secret from the outside world. She describes her own involvement in the church's efforts to discredit those who spoke out against polygamy and her eventual decision to leave the church and move to San Francisco.Overall, Tell it All provides a firsthand account of life in a polygamous household and sheds light on the controversial practice of polygamy within the LDS church.A narrative of Mrs. T.B.H. Stenhouse's life as one of several wives in a Mormon family. Numerous plates. Includes a preface by Mrs. Harriet Beecher Stowe: In these pages, a woman, a wife and mother, speaks the sorrows and oppressions of which she has been the witness and the victim. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
