Dorner established his reputation with the publication of 'History of the Development of the Doctrine of the Person of Christ', an indirect response to Strauss. One of the most noteworthy of the ""mediating"" theologians, he has been ranked with Friedrich Schleiermacher, August Neander, Karl Nitzsch, Julius Mueller, and Richard Rothe.
