In the original performance Glaspell played the role of Mrs. Hale. An early example of feminist drama, the two female leads show sympathy to the victim's wife, Minnie. In contrast, the men was shown to be cold and indifferent. The act was frequently anthologized and cited as one of the greatest work of America drama.
