Beskrivelse af Souls In Bondage (1904)
Souls in Bondage is a novel written by Perceval Gibbon and published in 1904. The story is set in the early 1900s and follows the lives of two men, one British and one African, who are both struggling to find their place in a rapidly changing world. The British man, John Wilmot, is a young lawyer who has recently arrived in Africa to take up a position as a colonial administrator. He is idealistic and believes in the mission of the British Empire to bring civilization to the ""uncivilized"" peoples of Africa. The African man, Kali, is a slave who has been sold into bondage by his own people. He is forced to work on a plantation owned by a cruel and abusive master. Despite their vastly different backgrounds, John and Kali's lives become intertwined when John becomes involved in a campaign to abolish slavery in Africa. The novel explores themes of colonialism, racism, and the struggle for freedom and independence. It is a powerful and thought-provoking work that offers a glimpse into the complex and often brutal realities of life in colonial Africa. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
